If you noticed, I've had the little button above posted on the side of my blog for a few weeks now. This is because I am taking part in the Second Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge hosted by Dirty Diaper Laundry.
For 7 days I will be using only flat cloth diapers and handwashing them in an effort to prove that cloth diapering can be affordable and accessible to all. You can learn more about the rules and why this challenge was started by visiting the announcement post. This year there are over 450 participants from all over the world!
This is my first time participating in the challenge and also my first time using flats, ever! I purchased flats specifically for this event and will be blogging about my experience each day for those interested in reading about my journey.

Today's writing prompt: What do I expect to learn/ Why I’m taking the challenge?
The reason I'm taking the challenge is because I want to learn to adapt if for whatever reason I would have to do this on a regular basis. I want to be prepared and confidant in how to hand wash flat diapers and covers properly. It's not the flats that scare me, it's hand washing.
I'm basically going to be hand washing in my tub and using my sexy zebra print gloves (pictures to come)! It's been raining so I'll have to hang dry my flats over chairs. I did have a foldable line dryer that we gave to my mother-in-law, I mat have to borrow it. I'm hand washing my first load of diaper laundry tonight so wish me luck!
So far things have went well. Last night I put E to bed in a flat using an origami fold with a receiving blanket folded like a prefold in a Flip cover as seen below.
My origami fold doesn't look perfect but It worked out GREAT! Surprisingly there were no leaks last night!
Come back tomorrow for an update on how my hand washing went and to find out what supplies I'm using for the challenge!

Zebra gloves?! Can't wait to see them, LOL
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I found that flats were pretty easy to wash, they rinse so well. Question- where did you find the linky code? I have been trying to find it all day and you would think this is my first hop or something because I can't find it to save my life!
