Flats and Handwashing Challenge: Day 5

Today is Day 5 of the Second Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge hosted by Dirty Diaper Laundry. I will be using flat cloth diapers for a whole week. You can read about the challenge and why I'm doing it in my Day 1 post.

Thursday went well considering I ran out of covers because they were all still drying from the previous day. Because i had no covers to use, I doubled up flats and worked with different folds. For example, I did a pad fold and layed it into a jo fold which worked out very well and can be seen below.

Today's Topic: What tips have I learned so far?
  • For one, The less there is to wash, the better. Don't let your wash loads get too big because it can take up a lot of time. You don't want to spend all day on one giant load.
  • Soak your flats because it helps with stains.
  • If drying indoors, leave the windows open! I noticed a HUGE difference in drying time when I left my windows open. I suppose the light breeze helped to dry them quickly?
  • If you can dry outdoors (weather permitting), do it as much as you can because your flats will dry much faster!
Im probably missing a few things but this is what comes to mind on what tips I've learned.

Are you taking the challenge? What's a tip that you think people NEED to know when using flats?
