I went to the grocery store yesterday and E was is a cover with a pad folded flat laid into a diaper cover. I put her in the shopping cart and started looking for what I needed. All of a sudden I notice poop on the cart seat. In my head I'm thinking "Oh my GOD!" E had a poo explosion! The poop escaped her diaper and was all over the cart seat. I turned red with embarrassment and quickly placed the items in my cart on a random shelf and speed walked right out the door. The worst part, I had NO wipes! I did have some paper towels so I wiped of the cart, laid and old sweater over her car seat and strapped her in.
As soon as we got home, she went straight in the bath tub! Lesson learned: No more pad fold when we are out and about! She is way too squirmy and active and from what I saw, it looked like the flat and shifted, causing the diaper to open and poop to spill out. This was totally my fault and could have been prevented if I would have used a different fold or doubled my flats.
That night I washed a smaller load of flats and ALL of my covers because they were starting to stink. Not the flats, the actual covers. I washed the heck out of them and realized how filthy they really were. I suppose I just wasn't washing them as well as I thought I was. Check out how Nasty the water was:
Since it has basically rained her all week, I've been hang drying my flats and covers inside. I ran out of room so ended up having to dry some flats on my towel rack in my bathroom (pictured below).
Tomorrow is the last day of the flats challenge so come back tomorrow to read my last post!

I would love to do cloth with our next one. Does hand washing really get them clean?
ReplyDeletewhen done properly, it sure does! =)
DeleteI had a poop explosion at Walmart before. Grossss. I was using disposables at the time, so all I had to do was throw that away and clean her off. Now that I'm using cloth, I'm THANKFUL she has yet to have a public poop explosion.
ReplyDeleteOH wow, I know to never do that now XD!
ReplyDeleteCloth diapering has really come far since my mother was washing our nappies! These are so much better looking than the disposables, and they must feel 100% better too. As I read posts like these I'm becoming more and more convinced that this might be something our family should do.
ReplyDeleteOh no- I had that happen to me when I didn't have any wipes. It is horrible! I don't cloth diaper but I like how you hang everything. Would be good with regular clothes too
ReplyDeleteoh wow, never thought about washing our fluff by hand, I like using mine in hot water, then a cold rinse and then line dry. Do they get as clean washing by hand? I will have to try that :)
ReplyDeleteIt is great to step out of our comfort zone every now and again. I enjoy using cloth diapers on our kids too
