While working in childcare, I discovered the importance of labeling your child's possessions. Some childcare centers make it a requirement that everything be labeled including clothing, shoes, cups, food, etc. This is because a lot of children have the same items and labeling them makes it easier to identify who they belong to. Also, When things get misplaced, labeling helps when they are recovered.

Even if you have school aged children, You never know if your child's classmate has the same backpack, shoes, or even jacket as your kiddo. It's even a great idea to label stationary and writing utensils like pens, pencils and notebooks. When you think about it, how many writing utensils does your child go through a year? I'm sure your son or daughter has let a classmate "borrow" a pencil at some point, probably something he or she will never get back. This scenario would be different if the pencil was labeled, am I right?
